When I began my spiritual journey, my guides were like whispers to me and I could not see them. It wasn't until I began using shamanic journey to connect with my guides and the earth medicine that I began "seeing".

I would always go to the same place--a clearing in the forest. There was a fire, a place to sit, a healing table, an altar and behind it all, a round hut that was partially dug into the ground. When I would go there, my guides would be waiting in the hut and emerge to bring me messages, healings or other visions for me or my clients. After a while, I noticed that they would meet me there with drums.

Bear has been one of my main guides for most of my life. I remember having a dream of bear when I was a child, coming to my home to bring me flowers. My other guide, who I simply call the Daughter of the Forest, also is there. She has large antlers and carries herbs in a small leather bag she wears across her chest. In this particularly painting, they came with drums, which reflected the fire, and healed me, taking the pain and transmuting it in the fire.

Bear comes with energy of the Mother and protector. She works with those that need mothering and the ability to stand tall and other times the need to hibernate and go inward, conserve energy and heal. I have this painting hanging in my healing studio, so they can watch over my work, guide me, and assist my healing.
